What is autism?
Autism is a developmental disability which is a neurological difference, affecting more than 1 in 100 people of the population. Autism is permanent, but the anxiety, depression and other related difficulties needn’t be. Hypnotherapy can give you tools to help you manage it.
Autism affects three key areas of life;
- Social communication – autistic people mean what they say, say what they mean and tend not to use metaphors.
- Repetitive behaviours, activities and interests – autistic people often have a specific field of interest or activity which is their passion, which they keep coming back to and can find comforting.
- Sensory differences – autistic people are often hyper sensitive to touch, sounds, smell etc..
Hypnotherapy involves relaxation and stress reduction which is good for easing anxiety. It’s a fully conscious deep relaxation where the mind is more able to take on positive suggestions thus making it easy to change habits and patterns. The safe hypnotherapy relaxation will help change the programme in your mind, which is similar to putting new software into your computer. This will allow you to create new thinking habits. You will only make the changes you want, so you are very much in control. I work flexibly to meet your needs and am happy to adapt to your preferred style of treatment.
How hypnotherapy can help autistic people cope better
Autism can make people feel alone and misunderstood. Hypnotherapy can help autistic children and adults to feel proud of themselves, to recognise their own value and come to terms with being different. Social anxiety is very common for autistic people and hypnotherapy can help people to master this and find strategies for coping better. The National Autistic Society are a useful source of information and advice worth checking out. Having worked with adults and children with autism for over thirty years I am able to value their individuality and create a supportive, understanding space for you to explore your issues and progress.
Hypnotherapy is a positive experience which helps people get control of their own brain power and use it for their good. This article explores the value of hypnotherapy for autistic children. The initial consultation starts by giving information about how your brain works, so you can understand how to use it to your best advantage.
