People often think they know all about anxiety, but don’t realise some of the symptoms they may be experiencing. Visit my Anxiety page to learn more about stress, anxiety and it’s treatment too.
1. Bruxism – teeth clenching & grinding!
Waking up in the morning with a painful jaw, may well be the result of teeth clenching in your sleep. Anxiety can cause you to teeth grind or clench your teeth while you’re awake or asleep. You might not even realise you’re doing it because it’s an unconscious habit. Clenching and grinding teeth can also cause headaches and toothaches. Might be wise to check with your dentist and think about treatments for anxiety.
2. Scattered thinking
If you find yourself struggling to remain focused – keep getting intrusive thoughts you don’t want jumping into your head – you may well be experiencing anxiety. Inevitably these random thoughts will always be negative. It’s never “what if I’ve won the lottery?” – it’s more like “what if someone I love is run over by a bus?!” That’s a sure sign it’s anxiety based because anxiety always focuses on the worst possible outcomes.
3. Disorganisation
When we experience anxiety our brains are mostly in the fight/flight state or survival mode, which means we can’t think clearly enough to plan and be organised. This part of the brain is not efficient and focused, it is reactive and panicky. This can show itself in many different ways, like having a messy home, forgetting to pay bills or turn up for appointments. It makes like even more stressful because it results in more problems, which makes more stress and anxiety.
